What has God already redeemed, and what is still waiting for redemption?
God has already redeemed the soul and spirit, but the body still awaits redemption. Ephesians 1:14 calls the Holy Spirit the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession. Romans 8 says everything moves to the final redemption of the body, when believers become complete.
Les explains that the sealing of the Holy Spirit is the earnest, the down payment, of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession. He notes that God has already redeemed our soul and spirit, but what is waiting is the redemption of the body. The day is coming when we will have a new body, part of the complete redemption in Ephesians chapter 1. Turning to Romans chapter 8, Les says everything is moving to the day when we will have that final redemption of the body. Then we will be a complete entity, ready to go into all eternity.
