Do the good deeds of a lost person help him before God?
No. According to Romans 6:23, the wages of sin is death, and everything a lost person does—good or bad—piles up wages for eternal doom. Salvation is not earned by works; it is the gift of God, eternal life through Jesus Christ.
The teaching explains that Romans 6:23 contrasts wages and gift. Wages are what you work for and what you deserve, while the old Adamic nature we are born with has only one direction: death, eternal death. Therefore, everything a lost person does, whether good or bad, is piling up wages for his eternal doom. Good deeds do not change that. But the flip side is the gift of God: eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. A gift is something you do not deserve and cannot earn by even one iota of work; salvation must be a gift.
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
