Why can’t we enter God’s heaven unless God does something for us?

Because everyone has come short of the glory of God, and the human race was separated from God through Adam’s fall. In ourselves we are lost, like sheep without a shepherd, and no personal reason or merit can open heaven. Therefore, entrance depends on God doing something on our behalf.

Les explains that a helpful witnessing question is, “Why should God let you into His heaven?” because it exposes people’s various reasons, and they invariably overlook Romans 3. He teaches that the very first step of faith on the road to salvation is to recognize that in ourselves we are lost. We are like sheep without a shepherd, separated because of the fall of Adam, who was the federal head of the whole human race. Scripture says everyone has come short of the glory of God, which means we cannot enter God’s heaven unless God does something on our behalf.
