Why did God send His Son in the likeness of sinful flesh according to Romans 8:3?

God sent His Son in the likeness of sinful flesh because the law was weak through the flesh and could not do what was needed. Christ came for sin to take the place of old Adam, so that believers could be crucified with Him and old Adam condemned in the flesh.

Les explains that Romans 8:3 centers on what the law could not do because it was weak through the flesh. God therefore sent His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, that is, to take the place of old Adam so that we could be crucified with Him, with old Adam condemned in the flesh. Les reminds us that in Romans the singular “sin” usually refers to old Adam, the Adamic sinful nature and fountainhead of all our problems, while plural “sins” are the things old Adam causes us to do. The law itself was righteous and perfect from God’s point of view, but it was weak from the fleshly side, from man’s point of view.
