Why did God make Christ to be sin for us?

God made Christ to be sin for us so that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him. The sinless Lamb of God took on the sin of the world for us, enabling believers to be clothed in God's own righteousness and be reconciled to Him.

Les explains that God made Christ, the sinless Lamb of God, to be sin for us. Even though He is the Eternal, Sovereign Creator God, He took on the sin of the world. The purpose was that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him. Les points out that when God's righteousness is imparted to the believer, God no longer looks on the old sinner but sees us clothed in the righteousness of Christ. This is the reconciliation God offers.

2 Corinthians 5:21

For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
