How can we comprehend our spiritual oneness with Christ?

Spiritual oneness with Christ is comprehended by faith, because it is entirely in the spiritual realm. Scripture reveals that, just as husband and wife become one, believers as members of His Body become one with Him. Though Christ and believers remain distinct entities, this deep union is taught in the Book and must be believed.

Les explains that Paul, by inspiration, uses the husband-wife relationship in Ephesians 5 to picture Christ's relationship to believers as members of the Body of Christ. In a heaven-made marriage, two people become one, as wedding ceremonies sometimes show by blowing out two candles and lighting one. Likewise, when we enter into union with Christ, we remain two separate entities, but once we have entered in and enjoy our position in Christ, we become one with Him, like husband and wife. Les teaches that this is a deep concept because it is all in the spiritual realm, and the only way we can comprehend it is by faith. The Book teaches it, so we have to believe it, which is what God expects. He also connects this to Deuteronomy 29:29: the secret things belong to the Lord our God, but once they are revealed, they belong to us and our children forever. God is revealing a relationship not only between husband and wife but between Christ and believers as members of His body.
