Why can there be no condemnation for a person who has been justified by faith?
Because justification is by faith, God can declare through the apostle that there is now no condemnation. This assurance applies to a person with genuine faith in the Gospel and a genuine salvation experience, not merely to a haphazard church member or someone who had an emotional experience.
Les explains that because we are justified by faith, God can come back to the apostle and say, “...therefore there is now then no condemnation.” He carefully qualifies this eternal security: it is not about any haphazard church member who merely walked an aisle or joined a church, but about someone who has had genuine faith in the Gospel and a genuine salvation experience. Les also notes that assurance does not depend on a great white light, tremendous emotional upheaval, or a prescribed set of rules. Scripture does not require an emotional high. He went through verses in Romans to help people know from Scripture that they are saved and to help those seeking.
