Why were the religious Jews of Jesus' day against Jesus?

The religious Jews of Jesus’ day opposed Him because they could not believe He was the Christ. They could not accept that He was the One promised all the way back from Genesis chapter 12. Their religious mindset was carnal and resistant to recognizing Jesus as the promised Messiah.

Les teaches that the issue was not merely outward religion. Saul of Tarsus was carnal and fleshly even though he was religious; the motivating power within him was not the things pleasing to God, but the contrary, because he was stamping out those who had recognized Jesus was indeed the Christ. Les explains that we must understand the mindset of not only Saul of Tarsus but all the religious Jews of Jesus’ day. They were so constantly against Him because they could not believe that He was the Christ. He could not be the one promised all the way back from Genesis chapter 12.
