What happens to old Adam if he is not put to death in this life?
If old Adam is not put to death in this life by appropriating the work of the cross and being reckoned dead in Christ, he will experience the second death: the great white throne judgment, consigned to the lake of fire forever and ever.
Les explains that old Adam is the mind, will, and emotion we are born with—the old sin nature living in the body of flesh. The flesh will die physically if the Lord does not come, but the spirit side must also be dealt with. Either old Adam dies spiritually in this life by appropriating the work of the cross and being reckoned dead in Christ, or he experiences the death knell of the great white throne and is consigned to the lake of fire forever, which is the second death. Paul deals with this the most.
