Why do Christians have to identify with Christ's death?
Christians identify with Christ's death because the old Adam must die and be separated from them. Just as Christ truly died and rose by the Father's glory, believers come out of deadness to experience new life. This identification is fundamental to the Christian plan of salvation.
Les explains that we have been engulfed in the very death of Christ Himself, so we have to identify with that. Old Adam has to die, and we have to be separated from him, even as Christ's three days and three nights signified that He was really dead. Reading Romans 6:4, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also are going to come out of a deadness and experience a new life. The flip side is that we are no longer in the old lifestyle; now, because of God's grace and mercy, we are experiencing His love. Les says these concepts are too often not heard or understood, yet they are fundamental to our Christian plan of salvation.
