What does Romans 6 teach about identifying with Christ's death?

Romans 6 teaches believers must identify with what Christ accomplished on their behalf. Paul makes plain that Christ fulfilled God’s demand that the soul that sinneth must surely die; He died our death. The ego, the “I,” the old Adam, was crucified and placed on the cross in God’s mind because God did it on our behalf.

Les explains that Romans 6 makes plain we have to identify with what Christ accomplished on our behalf on the cross. Christ fulfilled God’s demand that the soul that sinneth must surely die, and He died our death. As the Holy Spirit enlightens our understanding and regenerates the old dead spirit, we realize, “Yes, I have died.” The ego, the I, the old Adam was crucified and placed on the cross in the mind of God, because God did it on our behalf. Then the spirit is regenerated by outside power, fellowship is restored, and the Holy Spirit comes to dwell in the person. The old sin nature becomes a new divine nature, and this generated part is in consort with the eternal God. It then affects the body and begins to show in the Christian walk, as we grow in grace and knowledge.
