What does 'even so' mean in Romans 6:4?
In Romans 6:4, 'even so' means 'in the same way' or 'in the same manner.' It links Christ being raised from the dead by the glory of the Father to believers also coming out of deadness and experiencing new life.
Les explains that 'even so' is asking what it means, then answers: 'in the same way, in the same manner.' Just as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, we also are going to come out of a deadness and experience a new life. This follows the identification with Christ's death—old Adam has to die and be separated—so the resurrection points to new life. He then turns to 2 Corinthians 5:17 for related concepts.
Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
