Does God's grace give us freedom to continue sinning?
No. Grace is not a license to continue in sin. Paul asks whether we should continue in sin because grace abounds, and the answer is "God forbid"—banish the thought. Grace never authorizes letting old Adam reign or doing as we please while expecting God to overlook it.
Les explains that Romans 6 follows the truth that grace abounds even where sin abounds. Paul anticipates the objection: if grace is so great, shall we continue in sin, let old Adam have his way, and let him reign as king? The answer is "God forbid"; don't even think such a thought. Les notes that, if he understands Greek correctly, the term "God" is not even in verse two, so the idea is "banish the thought." God's overwhelming grace does not mean we are now free to do as we please, let old Adam control us, and expect God to somehow take care of it. Paul later refers back to Romans 3:7, where he says he was accused of this, and he supposes most of his listeners were too.
God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

God's overwhelming grace does not make us free to do as we please or let old Adam control us and expect God to take care of it; that thought is to be banished.
