Where does Paul teach that believers are seated with Christ?
Paul teaches this in the passage where he writes that God raised believers up together and made them sit together in the heavenlies in Christ Jesus. He then continues into verses 8–10, declaring salvation is by grace, not of merit.
Les explains that when Christ was on the cross, God saw believers there with Him; when He was in the tomb, and when He rose in resurrection power, believers were with Him. Paul brings out that believers have been raised, resurrected out of that deadness, and made to sit together in the heavenlies. Les stresses that believers are special in God’s sight simply because they believe the gospel, and God considers them already seated with Him in the heavenlies. He also draws comfort from this: believing loved ones are already seated in the heavenlies, and death cannot kill that which is already a citizen of heaven. Then he reads that even when we were dead in sins, God quickened us together with Christ, by grace, not of merit, and raised us up together and made us sit together in the heavenlies in Christ Jesus, continuing to verses 8–10 on being saved by grace.
