Through whom have believers received the atonement?

Believers have received the atonement through the Lord Jesus Christ. By Him, believers enjoy God and have now received the atonement. This true atonement was finalized when the blood of Christ was shed, taking away sins that the Old Testament sacrifices only covered.

Les explains that the word atonement is doctrinally heavy. In the Old Testament, it was a misnomer; even when the high priest did everything exactly right and offered the blood of the sacrifice on the Holy of Holies and the mercy seat, it never took away a single sin. It was a stopgap waiting for the coming of Christ, essentially a covering or a sweeping of sins under the rug. The true atonement was finalized when the blood of Christ was shed. Then all that stuff under the rug was atoned for, taken away, and forgiven. Believers now enjoy God through the Lord Jesus Christ, by whom they have received the atonement.
