What did the cross make possible for the whole human race?
The cross made reconciliation with God possible and available for the whole human race. Though humanity was alienated and enemies of God, Christ's death provided the basis for reconciliation, and believers are saved by His risen life, securing salvation for this life and eternity.
Les explains that lost people are not under God's control; they are enemies and aliens until they come God's way. Yet God does not stop loving His enemies, and He keeps pouring out His grace and offering them salvation. Romans 5:10 says that when we were enemies we were reconciled. The work of the cross made reconciliation not just possible but available to the whole human race. If we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. He had to die and shed His blood as payment for sin, but He did not stay in the grave. He arose victorious over sin, death, and hell, and since He was victorious, we are. That is imputed to our account, so believers have salvation for this life and all eternity, and already have eternal life within.
For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.
