What is faith according to Les Feldick?
Faith is trusting that Christ's death and resurrection accomplished everything a holy God could demand, and simply believing it. It is not faith plus works or human merit; adding anything to grace cancels the work of the cross. Genuine faith honestly recognizes that God has said it and responds, 'God, I believe it.'
Les teaches that faith is faith plus nothing. In the context of chapter 5, Paul warns that if you add circumcision or anything man can do to merit salvation, Christ shall profit you nothing. Les explains that trying to add something to the gospel of grace cancels the work of the cross. Many church people say they cannot be saved unless they do this or that, but that is canceling the cross. Instead, we must believe that when Christ died and rose from the dead, He did everything a holy God could demand of us. All God asks is that we believe it. Faith is honestly looking at Scripture, recognizing that God has said it, and saying with all the heart, 'God, I believe it.' If we will not believe, we stand under the anathema of a holy God who is angered by our unbelief. This is what faith is all about.
