What is God's way of salvation?

God's way of salvation is by His grace, through faith, plus nothing. It is not earned by works or by joining any group; it is a personal salvation received by responding rightly to the gospel. No one can put God in debt, for salvation is not a reward for human effort.

Les explains that God's way of salvation is not about what we do or who we join up with, but about what we do with the gospel. He points out that the church is in trouble when it fails to pinpoint the need for personal salvation. He illustrates a woman who was led through the plan of salvation and was gloriously saved, going away happy. Then in verse 4, Paul writes that to the person who works, the reward can never be reckoned of grace because they have earned it. We will never put God in debt. The whole admonition is that we have to come God's way, and that way is by God's grace, through faith, plus nothing.

Romans 4:4

Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.
