Les Feldick Bible Study

Why should believers work and serve after being saved by faith plus nothing?

Believers work and serve after salvation because, while salvation is by faith plus nothing, God rewards their labor. Their works are tested by fire; work that abides brings reward, while wood, hay, and stubble is burned. They serve for God's glory, sending reward ahead to be received later.

Les explains that believers may have wood, hay, and stubble that counts for nothing, while others have gold, silver, and precious stone symbolically and receive reward. The lesson is that we are saved by faith plus nothing, but immediately begin to work, serve, and do everything to God's glory because the reward is piling up. Everything done for God's glory is sent ahead and waits for us, so we can cash in on these rewards later. Every believer's work will be made manifest, and the fire will test every man's work of what sort it is. If any man's work abides, he receives a reward; if it is burned, he has nothing but wood, hay, and stubble. This is about reward, not salvation.
