Why did Christ come to earth and die?
Christ came and died willingly and obediently out of love for the human race, to accomplish everything needed to take care of old Adam and give believers a new divine nature. His finished work cannot be added to; it is poured out to those who genuinely believe.
Les teaches that God has already done everything required to deal with old Adam, to give a new divine nature, and to set our feet on a rock. It was all accomplished when He said “it’s finished,” and nothing can be added. Christ, the Creator, came down, took on human flesh, lived 33 years on Israel’s dusty, dirty roads, and went the most horrible death ever dreamed up by mankind—willingly and obediently because He loved the human race. He did all that needed to be done so it could be poured out if people will just believe it. Les stresses that believing is not mere acknowledgment; it is a genuine heart condition. The law condemns and convicts old Adam, and the sinner realizes God’s mercy has already been poured out and merely appropriates it. When a person believes, God gives the power to live it; no one can live it until saved.
