Les Feldick Bible Study

Can anyone lay a foundation besides Jesus Christ?

No. Scripture says no man can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. Paul’s building began on a brand-new foundation: Christ crucified, buried, and risen again. Therefore, no other foundation—religious, ecumenical, or human—can replace or supplement Him.

Les explains that Paul calls himself the master builder, but Paul does not come in to continue something that had already been building for years. Instead, Paul starts with a brand-new foundation: Jesus Christ and Him crucified, buried, and risen again. Les then points to the next verse: 'other foundation can no man lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.' He contrasts this with the modern push toward a consortium or ecumenical union of the world's religions, including the claim that all monotheistic religions are in Christ and all go to heaven.

1 Corinthians 3:11

For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
