Without what can a person not please God?

Scripture teaches that without faith a person cannot please God. This precept is just as important and set in concrete as the other: without the shedding of blood there is no remission. Faith is the essential requirement for pleasing God, and it stands alongside the necessity of blood for remission, pointing to the cross.

Les explains that there are two precepts never to lose sight of: without faith you cannot please God, and without the shedding of blood there is no remission. The shedding of blood goes back to the cross. He also notes that the law can only condemn and cannot justify; it gives the knowledge or awareness of sin, but the righteousness of God is without the law. So faith, not law-keeping, is what pleases God.
