Will any person in heaven be there because of their own works or merit?

No one in heaven will be there because of personal works or merit. Scripture declares salvation is not of works, lest anyone should boast. Every person present will owe their entrance solely to the work of a merciful God, not to anything they accomplished or deserved.

Les explains that if heaven were a matter of merit, it would be awful, because everyone would be crossing the street ahead of time to avoid hearing someone tell again what he did to get there. But it will not be that way, because no one will be able to say a thing he has done got him there. The only reason anyone is in heaven is the work of a merciful God. The phrase “not of works, lest he should boast” removes every ground for human boasting and merit.
