What does God see when He looks at an unbelieving person?
God sees a lost person still in old Adam—a fallen, unbelieving individual whose portrait is not pretty: an opulent sepulcher with a mouth full of cursing and no fear of God. Scripture presents this as the problem requiring God's provided remedy.
Les teaches that Romans 3 brings God's conclusion about mankind's fallen condition and shows that the only remedy is the one God Himself provides. When God looks at a human being still in old Adam—whether the teacher, the hearer, or every lost person—He sees the not-pretty picture of verses ahead: "We are an opulent sepulcher, our mouth is full of cursing, and we have no fear of God." Les explains that this is the picture of the unbelieving individual that God sees. Then Paul says "we know," speaking of solid ground and basic scriptural fact, not wishful thinking or something only a theologian could dream of.
Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.
