What real advantages did the Jews have?

The Jews had much going for them in every way: covenant promises, the Old Testament, the prophets, the Psalms, the temple, and the priesthood. Yet the chief advantage was that the oracles of God were committed to them, as Paul declares.

Les explains that in this third chapter, Paul asks what advantage the Jew had, or what profit there was in circumcision or being an adherent of Judaism. His answer is 'much,' 'every way.' Les notes they had all the covenant promises, the Old Testament, the prophets, the Psalms, the temple, and the priesthood—all going for them. But Paul says that still wasn't the most important. The most important was that they had the oracles of God. Les also points out that only Jews wrote this book by inspiration of the Spirit, and he is convinced Luke had to be a Jew, or at least half a Jew. Israel's true advantage was that God's oracles were committed to them.
