Why can't a society last without religious values?
A society cannot last without religious values because religious guidelines keep people within a necessary spectrum of behavior. Even a religion one might disagree with supplies restraint. Without restraint, society falls into anarchy, and no nation has ever endured it. As Rome shows, moral, political, and economic corruption leads to self-destruction.
Les explains that when a society pushes God out of its thinking, it begins to worship anything and everything but the one true God, opening itself to an immoral lifestyle. He cites an article by a university secular individual who was not writing with religious overtones, yet stated that unless a society is guided and controlled by religious values, it cannot last. Even a religion one would not agree with still has guidelines that keep people under a certain spectrum of behavior, which a society must have. When a society falls into anarchy and no restraint, it cannot last; no nation ever has. Rome is the example: though it had the greatest military machine of its time, Rome became politically, economically, and morally corrupt, so nobody had to come in and defeat it—Rome defeated itself. Historians have warned that America is going down the same road and will destroy itself from within, not by an outside power.
