What does the gathering of the grapes into the wine vat symbolize in Revelation 14?

The gathering of grapes into the wine vat symbolizes the assembling of military forces into Israel's valleys, especially the Valley of Esdraelon and the Jordan Valley. God sovereignly packs them together so His presence will crush them like grapes, executing the great wine press of His wrath.

Les explains that the gathering of the grapes into the wine vat is the gathering of these military people into that valley of Esdraelon, down the Jordan Valley, and into all the low-lying areas of Israel especially. They will be packed in like sardines in a can. Contrary to good military operation, they are forced by a sovereign God to pack their men into these valleys. That is the wine vat; it is like putting grapes in the vat. Then the very presence of God will come and crush them as grapes in the vat. Verse 19 says the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, gathered the vine, and cast it into the great wine press of the wrath of God. Les notes that God's wrath is not being poured out tonight; we have no idea what the wrath of God will do. Floods, earthquakes, and volcanoes are nothing compared to what it will be when the wrath of God is finally released on Christ and God rejecting mankind.

Revelation 14:19

And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it into the great winepress of the wrath of God.
