What is reconciliation based on?

Reconciliation is based on God's work of the cross. All things are of God, who has reconciled us. It is like redemption: bringing back together those separated by disagreement into full fellowship. God desires this for the whole human race and has already accomplished it through Christ's finished work.

Les explains reconciliation by comparing it to broken families and broken homes. When people are separated by some gross disagreement, the best thing that can happen is to be reconciled—brought back together and into full fellowship. He notes that reconciliation is a lot like redemption: if you have lost control of something, the only way to gain control is to buy it back. This is what God wants to do with the whole human race, and He has already reconciled us through the work of the cross, making those in Christ new creations.
