Why can a believer cope with daily life after being crucified with Christ?

The believer can cope because old Adam's power over daily behavior has been broken and God reckons him dead, even though he remains experientially. God leaves the believer in the world, but the life now lived in the flesh is lived by the faithfulness of Christ, who loved and gave Himself, enabling daily coping.

Les explains that when God saves us, He does not take us out of this world; He leaves us here to put up with all the things and pressures of this world, and even with old Adam, which experientially may still seem in force. But God reckons old Adam dead, crucified with Christ, and his power over our daily behavior has been broken. Paul says, “I have been crucified with Christ, yet nevertheless I live; not I, but Christ liveth in me.” The life now lived in the flesh, day by day and week in and week out, is lived by faith—better, by the faithfulness of Christ. It is because of what Christ accomplished on our behalf and what Christ is to us day by day in our everyday experience that we are able to cope. It is through His faithfulness, not ours, as the Son of God who loved me and gave Himself for me. That is substitutionary and an act of God; God in His omnipotence saw every believer in Christ when Christ hung on the cross and died, and that is how believers are reckoned crucified.
