What is Les appalled about when he visits some large churches?
He is appalled at the money poured into beautiful church buildings, where people sit for thirty to sixty minutes, are entertained, then go home and forget about it for a week. He does not think God is pleased, especially compared to poor pastors in India who exist on almost nothing to spread the Gospel.
Les explains that he was appalled, as was the Indian missionary he read, at the sumptuousness of the whole setup in large churches. He notes the money poured into beautiful buildings where people come in, sit for 30-40 minutes or an hour, enjoy, are entertained, and then go home and forget about it for a week. He does not think God is pleased. By contrast, he points out that in India poor old pastors exist on almost nothing just to get the Gospel to towns and villages. He ties this to setting affection not on things on earth but on things above.
