Where is the righteousness of God revealed according to Romans 1:17?

According to Romans 1:17, the righteousness of God is revealed in the Gospel—that is, in the power of God. Scripture says, “For therein is the righteousness of God revealed.” This righteousness is unveiled through the Gospel, which is God’s power unto salvation, not through human works or rituals.

Les explains that in verse 17, “therein” points back to the power of God and the Gospel. The righteousness of God is therefore revealed, or unveiled, in the Gospel. He contrasts this with common ideas that repentance, baptism, church membership, tithing, good works, and similar things are requirements for salvation. Those things may have a rightful place after salvation, but salvation itself rests totally upon faith in the Gospel and God’s finished work at the cross.

Romans 1:17

For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
