Les Feldick Bible Study

Why are Gentile believers called the seed of Abraham?

Paul calls Gentile believers the seed of Abraham because Christ is the singular seed to whom the promises were made. In the realm of faith plus nothing, Gentile believers are referred to as Abraham's seed through Christ, the one seed, not many seeds.

Les explains that Paul distinguishes three seeds: the seed of the woman in Genesis 3 who would crush Satan, the seed of David in Romans 1 who brought Christ on the scene to become flesh, go the way of the cross, and be rightful heir to David's throne, and the seed of Abraham. Galatians 3:16 says the promises were made to Abraham and his seed, not plural seeds, but one seed, who is Christ. Therefore, in the realm of faith plus nothing, Gentile believers are referred to as the seed of Abraham because Christ is the seed.

Galatians 3:16

Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.
