How is the modern church like the Laodicean church in Revelation 3?
The modern church mirrors Laodicea by claiming material riches—huge sanctuaries, facilities, gyms—yet being spiritually destitute, poor, miserable, wretched, and blind. This happens because it neglects Paul's writings, the portion needed for the church, and hears only the Gospels, causing spiritual decline while materially prospering.
Les teaches that the modern church is in the Laodicean condition, just as Revelation 3 describes. Churches may be filled with members and boast of huge sanctuaries, plants, gymnasiums, and tennis courts, saying, "We're rich." But Jesus calls them poor, miserable, wretched, and blind. Les explains this is because they neglect the apostle Paul's writings, which are the most neglected in Scripture today. Many pulpits only preach Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. While that is Scripture, Les says it is not the portion the church needs today. Neglecting the very basis of our faith explains why churches are weak and falling apart spiritually, though not materially.
