Why did Paul and Silas leave Thessalonica and go to Berea?

Paul and Silas left Thessalonica because Jews who would not permit them to preach drove them out of the city. The brethren then sent them away by night to Berea, a few miles down the coast, where they went into the synagogue of the Jews, as they always did.

Les explains that Paul and Silas were driven out of Thessalonica by the Jews who would not permit them to preach in the synagogue or anywhere else. So the brethren immediately sent them away by night to Berea, just a few miles down the coast. When they arrived, they went into the synagogue of the Jews, as they always did in those early days. Les points out that the Bereans were more noble than the Thessalonians because they received the Word with all readiness of mind and searched the Scriptures daily to see whether Paul and Silas' teaching was true. They only had the Old Testament, and they checked it to confirm the message. Les uses this as an example, urging people today not just to swallow what he teaches but to go home and search the Scriptures and check him out. He says he begs it, not wanting someone to say 'that's what Les said,' but wanting them to search the Scriptures, as the Bereans did. Many of them believed because they searched the Scriptures.
