What is a lost person really doing when they reject God's offer of salvation?

When a lost person rejects God's offer of salvation, they are rejecting a pardon—a decree that sets them right back as if they had never broken the law, completely wiping the slate clean. They are walking it underfoot, choosing an eternity of regret for what was already paid for.

Les explains that rejecting God's offer of salvation is rejecting a pardon. A pardon is a decree that sets a person right back as if they had never broken the law in the first place; it is completely wiping the slate clean. That, he says, is what God has done for us. He connects this to Hebrews 2:9, where Jesus was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honor, and by the grace of God tasted death for every man. Les teaches that the eternal doom of the wicked is so awful not because of the heat of the flames or unsatisfying appetites, but because it is an eternity of regret: “I didn't have to be here. This was all paid for, and I rejected it.” He says there is nothing worse than regret. The world today, he explains, is walking it underfoot. Lost men, women, boys, and girls are all rejecting a pardon when they reject God's offer of salvation.
