What is wrong with inviting multitudes down the aisle to take Jesus as their Savior?
Inviting multitudes down the aisle to take Jesus as Savior is not the Gospel. Those clichés may be well and good as far as they go, but they omit the real Gospel: Christ died for our sin penalty, was buried, and rose again. Taking Jesus into your heart follows believing that message, not a cliché alone.
Les teaches that the Gospel has been reduced to handy clichés such as “come and take Jesus into your heart,” “just believe in Jesus,” or “take Him as your personal Savior.” Those may be well and good as far as they go, but they are not the Gospel. Multitudes have been invited to come down the aisle and take Jesus as Savior, yet that is not the Gospel. Les insists the Gospel is only one thing: Christ died for me and for you, paid the sin penalty, suffered in my place, and shed His divine, pure, precious blood in total payment for sin. He was buried, really dead, and arose from the dead powerful and victorious. Because He lives, we live and will live. Once a person understands and believes that Gospel, then he is taking Christ into his heart and He becomes personal Savior. But most people are neglected and not told that; many hear everything but the Gospel.
