What kind of a man was Ananias?
Ananias was a devout man according to the Word and a Jew. He was a believing, law-keeping Jew who had not yet been told he was not under Law but under grace. He maintained his Judaism while also recognizing that Jesus was the Christ.
Les explains that when Paul later recounts his Damascus experience in Acts chapter 22, he describes Ananias as “a devout man according to the Word” and a Jew. So Ananias was a believing but law-keeping Jew. At that time, no one had told Ananias that he was not under the Law but under grace. These Jewish believers had not been told to quit temple worship or stop legalism. They maintained their Judaism, yet they also recognized that Jesus was the Christ.
