Why is Les uncomfortable with exorcism or casting out demons?
The discomfort stems from the Apostle Paul never giving Grace Age believers any instructions for dealing with demon possession. The only approach offered is presenting the Gospel, since genuine salvation is thought to resolve the possession. These views are presented as suggestions rather than concrete doctrine.
Les explains that he is uncomfortable with exorcism and casting out demons because the Apostle Paul never once gives the Grace Age believer any instructions in dealing with demon possession. Les says he does not set these things in concrete, but the only way he is content about dealing with it is that the person probably needs salvation. If they can present them with the Gospel and see them genuinely born again, he thinks that will take care of their demon possession. He notes that if someone thinks he is wrong, that is their privilege. In the Samaria account, the same power Jesus had in His earthly ministry was present, and unclean spirits came out of many possessed people.
