Why is Canaan or Palestine called the land of promise?

Everything connected with Canaan was based on the promises of God. God had made a covenant agreement with Abraham and reaffirmed it to Isaac, promising to give the land to his seed and to perform the oath sworn to Abraham. That covenant foundation gave the region its title, the land of promise.

Les teaches that Genesis 26 shows the promise continuing to Isaac, the true son of promise, after famine came in the land. God appeared to Isaac and told him not to go down into Egypt but to dwell in the land God would show him. God promised to be with Isaac, bless him, give all those countries to him and his seed, and perform the oath He swore to Abraham. That oath was the Abrahamic Covenant. Les notes that because everything connected with Canaan was based on God's promises, Canaan or Palestine is called the land of promise. The same covenant also promised that Isaac's seed would multiply as the stars of heaven and that in his seed all nations of the earth would be blessed because Abraham obeyed God's voice.
