Why is Canaan called the land of promise?

Canaan is called the land of promise because everything connected with it was based on God's promises. God swore to Abraham, then repeated the oath to Isaac, that He would give those countries to Isaac's seed and bless all nations through that seed.

Les explains that Canaan, or Palestine, is called the land of promise because everything connected with Canaan was based on the promises of God. In Genesis 26, after God made the covenant agreement with Abraham, He referred it on to Isaac, the true son of promise. God appeared to Isaac and told him not to go down into Egypt but to dwell in the land God would tell him of. God promised to sojourn in that land, be with Isaac, bless him, and give all those countries to him and his seed. He also promised to perform the oath He swore to Abraham—the Abrahamic Covenant—multiplying Isaac's seed as the stars of heaven, giving them the countries, and blessing all nations of the earth through his seed because Abraham obeyed God's voice.

Genesis 26:2
