Were the believers in Acts 5 following the Gospel of the Kingdom or the Gospel of Grace?
The people in view were not Gentile adherents of Paul’s Gospel of Grace; they were Jewish people still believing the Gospel of the Kingdom. This fits the distinction that during Christ’s earthly ministry the Gospel of the Kingdom was in view, while Paul later brings the Gospel of the Grace of God.
Les teaches that the ones in question were not Gentile adherents of Paul’s Gospel of Grace but Jewish people who were still believing the Gospel of the Kingdom. He explains he had taught for years and was uncomfortable with what he had been shown about the four Gospels in the Book of Acts, so he skipped over them. Later he found a booklet titled Which Gospel When? by guest preacher Paul Van Gorder from the Day of Discovery radio Bible class. In those four lessons, he laid out that during Christ’s earthly ministry it was the Gospel of the Kingdom, not the Gospel of Grace; when Paul comes on the scene, it goes to the Gospel of the Grace of God. That changed Les’s whole concept of Scripture.
