Les Feldick Bible Study

How should you help people who insist on following their church instead of what you show them from the Bible?

Help them with patience and the work of the Holy Spirit over a period of months. Show them from Scripture so they can discern and verify it themselves, rather than depending on what a church says. Encourage them to get back into the Book and see what it actually says.

Les explains that helping people who insist on following their church instead of Scripture requires patience and the work of the Holy Spirit over time. He points to a couple he dealt with: it took a lot of patience, the husband was from a totally different view, and over about four, five, six months, between them, himself, and the Holy Spirit, they were finally squared away. Both came to know the Lord and became active in a local church. Les says this was a learning experience, because that mentality says, 'We can't go by what you tell us; we have to go by what our church says.' Many groups do that. A lady from her denomination's convention told him to read the first paragraph, which said in so many words, 'Don't you try to interpret Scripture on your own; wait until you hear it from behind the pulpit.' Les says that is where people get led down a primrose path. Some pulpits are alright, but a lot are not. So the goal is to help people discern the Scriptures. He does not want people just to say, 'Well, that's what Les said'; he wants them to see where he has shown what Scripture says, then come back on their own and say, 'Well, yeah, this is what it says.' That is his only reason for teaching. He does not build an organization, is never in it for money, and does not take offerings; the only money taken in for television goes to buy TV time. He does it because people have to get back into the Book.
