Why did God allow Rome to destroy Jerusalem after Israel's unbelief?
After the crucifixion, God gave Israel a forty-year period of testing, but the nation remained adamant in unbelief. Therefore, the sovereign God permitted Rome to come, destroy Jerusalem and the temple in an awful siege, and send Israel into dispersion among all the nations.
Les explains that from the time of the crucifixion until the Roman army destroyed the temple was forty years. The book of Acts covers that forty-year period when God was still dealing with His covenant people, even though He was going to start going to the Gentiles before the forty years ended. At the end of that testing period, Israel was still adamant in unbelief. So the sovereign God permitted Rome to come in, destroy the city in the most awful siege in ancient history, destroy the temple, and send Israel into dispersion among all the nations.
