What happened to Israel when the temple was destroyed in 70 AD?

When the Roman army destroyed the temple, Israel was sent into dispersion among all the nations of the world. This followed a 40-year period of testing after the crucifixion, during which Israel remained adamant in unbelief. That dispersion has begun to come to an end in our time, though it has not fully ended.

Les explains that from the time of the crucifixion until the destruction of the temple by the Roman army was 40 years. The book of Acts covers that 40-year period, during which God was still dealing with His covenant people even though He was going to start going to the Gentiles before the 40 years were up. At the end of those 40 years, Israel was still adamant in unbelief. Therefore, the sovereign God permitted Rome to come in and destroy the city in the most awful siege in all of ancient history. They destroyed the temple, and Israel was sent into a dispersion amongst all the nations of the world. Les notes that this dispersion has finally begun to come to an end, but it has not ended yet for the most part.
