What is the restitution of all things in Acts 3:21?
The restitution of all things is the future time when the curse is lifted, Satan is defeated, and the earth is regenerated and made gloriously beautiful again for the kingdom reign. It includes Israel's seven horrible years of tribulation before the King and kingdom come.
Les explains that Acts 3:21 says heaven must receive or hold Jesus until the times of restitution of all things, which God spoke by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began. Les emphasizes “until” as a time word. The Old Testament is full of the fact that before the King and the kingdom could come on the scene, Israel especially would have to go through those seven horrible years of restitution of all things. That restitution involves the lifting of the curse, the tribulation, and the defeat of Satan, so the earth would be regenerated and made gloriously beautiful again for the kingdom reign. Peter is in full agreement with the Old Testament, knowing Jesus had gone back to the Father’s right hand. Psalm 110:1 says, “Come sit at my right hand until I make your enemies your footstool,” which would be done during the tribulation. Then Israel could have her King and kingdom, and Peter was expecting it. Les notes Peter seems to have forgotten Jesus’ earlier indication in John’s Gospel that Peter would suffer an ignominious death; at this point he is enraptured with the idea that if Israel would repent and believe who Jesus was, their Messiah would return and they could yet have the kingdom.
