Why was Peter in perfect accord with God when he focused on Israel and accused them in Acts 3?
Peter was in perfect accord with God because he could not go beyond what God had revealed. At that point God had not yet said Israel was no longer under law but under grace. Therefore Peter rightly confined his remarks to Israel and accused them, speaking only according to divine revelation.
Les teaches that Peter’s language in Acts 3 is totally opposite what Paul speaks of in his letters. Paul never points the finger at Jew or Gentile and says, “You killed the Christ.” Instead, Paul says He loved you and died for your sins. Peter does not say that because these things were still hid in his mind. Biblical faith equals taking God at His Word, and God must first say or reveal something before anyone can believe it. So Peter could go no further than what God had revealed. He was not out in left field by confining his remarks to Israel or by accusing Israel of what they had done, because God had not yet said a word that they were not under law but now under grace. Thus Peter was in perfect accord with the Almighty God.
