Why was Peter not out in left field when he confined his message to Israel and accused them in Acts 3?
Peter was not out in left field because God had not yet revealed that Israel was no longer under law but under grace. Peter could go no further than what God had revealed, so confining his message to Israel and accusing them was in perfect accord with the Almighty at that point.
Les teaches that Peter’s language in Acts is totally opposite to what Paul speaks in his letters. Paul never points the finger at Jew or Gentile and says, “You killed the Christ,” but Peter does, and he does not soften it as Paul later does. Why? Because these things were still hid in the mind of Peter, and he could not go any further than what God had revealed. Biblical faith is taking God at His Word, and God must first say or reveal something before anyone can believe it. Therefore Peter was in perfect accord with Almighty God. He was not out in left field by confining his remarks to Israel, nor by accusing Israel of what they had done, because God had not yet said a word that they were not under law but now under grace.
