What did God promise Abraham in the Abrahamic covenant?
In the Abrahamic covenant, Abraham was promised a nation of people, a geographical area of land, and at the appropriate time their king, government, and kingdom. Through that nation, Israel could become the evangelization of the nations, taking salvation back to the whole mainstream of humanity.
Les explains that the Abrahamic covenant is the bedrock of everything God has been doing to redeem mankind. After 2,000 years of a hopeless race of humanity coming out of Adam, destroyed in the flood, and returning to paganism at the Tower of Babel, God at 2,000 B.C. said He would do something totally different. He called out one man and promised to bring from him a little nation, prepare them, and through them take salvation back to the whole mainstream of humanity. Specifically, He promised Abraham a nation of people, a geographical area of land, and at the appropriate time their king, their government, and their kingdom. Israel could be the evangelization of the nations. Israel rejected that when they crucified and killed their king, but God has not given up on them; Peter still pleads with Israel, saying the one they killed was the one they should have accepted as king, and God is ready to send him back as king if they believe.
