Why shouldn't a Christian feel bad for having never heard a certain Bible teaching before?

A Christian need not feel bad because even Peter, who spent three years with the Lord and preached from Pentecost filled with the Holy Spirit, admitted by inspiration that some things Paul wrote are hard to be understood. If Peter could not fully comprehend them, later believers should not be ashamed when they encounter teaching they have never heard before.

Les explains that when people come to him with questions and say they have never heard this before, he tells them, “Don’t feel bad.” Peter had spent three years with the Lord Himself and had preached from Pentecost on, filled with the Holy Spirit. Yet when Paul came on the scene and had written his letters, Peter still, by inspiration, had to admit that there was so much of that he could not comprehend. The book says Peter writes that in Paul’s epistles “are some things hard to be understood.” Peter was a well-founded, indoctrinated Jew, and even he could not put everything together at the end of his life. So Christians should not be ashamed if they are hearing a Bible teaching for the first time. The problem is not with the teaching itself; Scripture notes that the unlearned and unstable twist these things, as people have done ever since Peter wrote. Les also recalls an evangelist he heard to illustrate how this happens constantly.

2 Peter 3:16

As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
