When and where did Paul write Ephesians?
Paul wrote Ephesians from Rome during his imprisonment, near the end of his life. It is one of his later epistles, a prison epistle, written after his earlier writings. The letter reflects deeper doctrinal ground than his earlier works.
Les explains that Ephesians is one of Paul's later epistles, coming out of his prison experience in Rome toward the end of his life. He notes that in these prison epistles—Ephesians, Philippians, and Colossians—Paul reveals things he does not allude to in his earlier writings. Les says this is higher ground and deeper water doctrinally, the meat of the Word, which is why many people avoid these books. He also points out that Paul always wrote to believers, as in Ephesians 1:12, 'that we should be to the praise of His glory, who first trusted in Christ.'
